Workplace Psychological Health & Safety

What is psychological health and safety?

A psychologically healthy and safe workplace has been defined in the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace as “a workplace that promotes workers’ psychological well-being and actively works to prevent harm to worker psychological health, including in negligent, reckless or intentional ways”. The Standard outlines best practices and approaches that workplaces can use to assess elements that may impact their workers’ psychological health and safety (PH&S). This includes policies, procedures and interactions between leaders and workers, and customers and clients.

The Standard outlines the following psychosocial factors that contribute to workplace psychological health and safety.
